Fall is beautiful, cozy, and also — let’s be real — the start of cold and flu season. Between back to school germs, shorter days affecting your mood, and busy schedules draining your energy, your body needs a little extra support heading into the season. That’s where the right supplements come in.
I want to be clear: I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice. But I have a healthcare background, and these are the supplements I personally research, believe in, and use as part of my own wellness routine. Always check with your provider before starting something new.
Here are the categories worth paying attention to this fall — and my picks for each.
For Immune Support
Vitamin D Most people are deficient, especially as we get less sun in fall and winter. Vitamin D plays a huge role in immune function, mood, and energy. It’s one of the most researched supplements out there and one of the most worth taking.
Vitamin C A classic for good reason. Vitamin C supports immune function and is a powerful antioxidant. Look for a form that’s easy on the stomach.
Zinc Often overlooked but really effective for immune support, especially during cold and flu season. Great to have on hand even if you only take it when you feel something coming on.
Elderberry One of my favorites. Elderberry has been studied for its ability to shorten the duration of colds and support immune health. The gummies are easy and genuinely taste good.
For Energy
Magnesium Most adults don’t get enough magnesium and it affects everything — sleep, muscle function, energy levels, and stress response. If you’ve been feeling run down, this is often the missing piece.
B Complex B vitamins are essential for energy metabolism. If you’re feeling sluggish heading into fall, a B complex is worth adding to your morning routine.
Ashwagandha An adaptogen that helps your body manage stress while supporting sustained energy (not the jittery kind). This one has become a staple for me.
For Mood
Omega-3 / Fish Oil Omega-3 fatty acids support brain health and have been studied for their effect on mood, especially during seasons with less sunlight. This is one supplement worth splurging a little on — quality matters.
Vitamin D (yes, again) Worth mentioning twice because low Vitamin D is so closely linked to seasonal mood dips. If you do nothing else on this list, take your Vitamin D
L-Theanine Often paired with caffeine to take the edge off, L-Theanine also supports calm focus and mood on its own. Great if you feel anxious or scattered heading into a busy season.
You don’t need to take all of these at once — start with one category based on where you feel you need the most support. Immune health is the most timely right now, so Vitamin D, elderberry, and zinc are a great starting trio for fall.
