There’s something so grounding about taking one day a week to slow down completely. No to-do lists, no rushing, no guilt — just you, resetting for the week ahead. If you’ve ever felt like Sundays slip by in a blur of errands and dread for Monday, this routine is going to help you change that.
I’ve put together my go-to Self-Care Sunday routine, step by step, with some of my favorite products that make the whole experience feel a little more luxurious. Think of this as your permission slip to do absolutely nothing productive (except take care of yourself).
Why Self-Care Sundays Matter
Self-care isn’t just bubble baths and candles (although, yes, we’ll get to that). It’s about intentionally creating space to recharge so you can show up as your best self during the week. A consistent Sunday reset routine has been shown to lower stress, improve sleep quality, and even boost productivity come Monday morning.
So let’s get into it — here’s how I spend my ideal Self-Care Sunday, from morning to night.
Morning: Ease Into the Day
1. Wake Up Without an Alarm (If You Can) Sundays are for letting your body wake up naturally. If you struggle with oversleeping or want to ease into your morning with soft light instead of a jarring alarm, a sunrise alarm clock can help regulate your body’s natural rhythm.
2. Hydrate First, Coffee Second Before reaching for caffeine, start with a big glass of water. Adding electrolytes or a hydration boost first thing can make a noticeable difference in your energy levels.
3. Make It a Slow Coffee or Tea Moment Instead of chugging your coffee on the way out the door, treat your Sunday brew like a ritual. A good French press or matcha set turns this into something you actually look forward to. Also recommend having a favorite mug to make this ritual a bit more elevated.
Midday: Move and Reset Your Space
4. Gentle Movement This isn’t the day for an intense workout — think yoga, stretching, or a slow walk outside. A good yoga mat and a comfortable set of loungewear make this feel like a treat rather than a chore.
5. Tidy Up With Intention A clean space really does create a clear mind. Spend 20–30 minutes doing a light reset of your living space — fresh sheets, wiped counters, maybe a new candle lit. This is a great time to switch out your diffuser blend or freshen up linens. *Of note, I do recommend searching for a room spray that is non-toxic to pets/kids and safe for the whole family! This one is EWG verified!
6. Meal Prep for the Week Sunday is the perfect day to prep a few easy, healthy meals so your week feels lighter. Having the right containers and tools makes this so much less of a chore.
Afternoon: Nourish Your Body
7. Take a Long Bath or Shower This is the heart of Self-Care Sunday. Add a detoxifying bath soak, bubble bath, a body scrub, and maybe a hair mask while you’re at it. Multi-task your self-care.
8. Do a Full Skincare Routine Not just your usual quick routine — the full thing. Double cleanse, exfoliate, mask, and moisturize. This is the day to use that face mask sitting in your drawer.
Evening: Wind Down for the Week Ahead
9. Journal or Reflect Spend 10 minutes writing down how the week went and setting an intention for the week ahead. A guided journal makes this easier if you don’t know where to start. Picking a fun color also brings your personal flare!
10. Plan Your Week Lay out your outfits, check your calendar, and write your to-do list for Monday. A good planner keeps this simple and satisfying. And if you are into color coding events, this can help identify priority events to keep track of!
11. Wind Down Without Screens End the night with a book or a Kindle instead of your phone. Add a cup of calming tea and you’ve got the perfect way to ease into sleep. I also love putting on these blue blight blocking glasses (yes you will look weird, no one will care!) To help minimize exposure to blue light.
Make It Your Own
The beauty of a Self-Care Sunday routine is that it’s completely customizable. Maybe you only have time for three of these steps some weeks — that’s okay. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s intention. Pick the parts that feel most restorative to you and build from there.
